It has been a great one, hasn’t it? Who would have thought, at this time last year, I was bemoaning my lack of a baby. Then, two and a half months later, I saw those two pink lines.
Now, I sit here on a couch, my husband to the left of me, with the end result of those two pink lines propped in my lap, with a whimsical new ‘do created by me combing her hair back instead of to the side as is the norm after her bath. Seriously, she looks like some Christopher Walken/ Larry King Hybrid.
There is so much to be grateful for on the eve of 2010- life, love, health, family. The beautiful girl asleep on my lap as I write this, my fantastic husband making dinner for the two of us as Piper has her bath.
I’m so very lucky.

I am so sorry for the lack of content. This is my last week at home with Piper, the two of us go back to work on Monday.
That’s right, Piper will be in office with me. While partially excited about it, I’m also semi-nervous because she still can’t sleep on her own. She also won’t take to a sling, so the pack N play I’m bringing may be useless, while it will still be a good place to change her.
Paul will have spent a total of four weeks at home with us, two weeks in between where he worked. I must say he has been fantastic- cleaning and changing diapers constantly.
Motherhood is all about scheduling- trying to plan her feedings around the quick outings so I don’t leak through my shirt in Target again. We managed to but a few presents for the family kids, which was nice as Piper was really showered with love and gifts this year, and it was nice to give back.
Piper changes more and more every day. Her eyes are still bluish grey, but now she smiles! She’s just a beautiful miracle who has fed like a champ since minute one. She has put on two pounds and close to three inches in length. It appears mama’s milk does the baby good!
Daddy is in love with his baby, that’s for sure. Our family is wonderful- still, in case you’re wondering… No more until this one is in school!
As soon as I can I’ll post pics, I swear.

We have been home now since Saturday, and I’m sorry for the lack of updates!
The short story:
Piper Jane Felix was born at 11:27pm (not 11:35 as I had been told) by emergency c-section. I was in pitocin-induced labor for 24/25 hours, and pushed fruitlessly for two hours, when it became clear I could not birth a baby of her size vaginally. By my delivery date, I was 40 weeks and 2 days pregnant.
Piper Jane was born at 18.5 inches and 8lbs 6 ounces with a head full of dark brown hair. Her apgar score was 9 both times she was tested. Despite the massive pain from stitches, and the glorious leakage from my nether regions- we are in love. Piper is the best thing that has happened to us.
I’ll be back later with the long story, I promise.
